"I like to think that all broken things can have a new life if given a chance. I am always so happy when something, the uglier the better, that I've been looking at in my box of stuff for years finally finds its way into just the right place in a piece."

The piece I am making for the Scrapel Hill Art exhibit reflects a fairly constant theme in my work-the ability and opportunity we all have to make something of value from stuff we might consider useless or simply waste. My goal for the new Scrapel Hill piece is to show the power of transformation-in the materials and, I hope, in the eyes of the viewer-that emerges when art and audience meet. I like to think that all broken and "useless" things along with our routine ways of seeing them, can have a new life if given a creative chance.

I am starting with a three piece mirror frame I found at the Eubanks Rd. waste site. The piece has a triptych design and like pieces I have done in the past is "painted" with piece of used fabric, buttons and belts, bottle caps, broken jewelry, CDs, images from books found at the recycling shed and second hand paint.
