My sculptural work for the Scrapel Hill exhibit will be made up of three pairs of lightweight fabric panels, each pane 16"x8". The fabric is a lightweight spunweb material, gauze-like, translucent. At the top is a sleeve for a bamboo rod from which the panels hang. The overall sculpture will be 3'x3'x'8', and suspended from above using monofilament (clear fishing line). The panels provide the structure to which I will attach a collection of paper things-the "residue" of everyday transactions we carry in our pockets, shoulder bags, glove compartments-things that usually end up in the wastebasket.. Key tags, ticket stubs, shopping list, labels, fortunes-these small pieces of information seem critcal at the time for identification or inventory, ect, and then almost immediately become useless detritus. |
