The inspiration for this piece comes from a desire to honor N.C.'s war veterans. Red poppies have been a symbol of remembrance since 1921 for those who died during the two World Wars and other conflicts. This piece will be titled "Remember" and it is offered as an invitation to pause and offer awe in honor of those who have given their lives for their country.

Recently, upon grappling with the possibility of one of my three sons joining the military, I was forced to wrestle through an array of emotions. Remembering the poem by Lt. Colonel John MCCrae, " In Flanders Fields" brought perspective. The first line is "In Flander's Fields the poppies grow..." thus the subject of poppies.
