Illustrating the statements is important but what objects are used and how they are mounted for best visual effect is the capper. I expect at least one or two little stimulating visual kinetic inventions for each lever. These little details matter a great deal. They'll be funny, they'll be serious, they'll provide a balanced existance. What more could you want from a scrappy sculpture?
What I have in mind are simple statements, verging on platitudes that will be printed on the related image within each shutter. The objects mounted on each lever will also related to the statement and image for that side of the aluminum box. For example, the statement, "Take better care of your teeth." Could be written on a corresponding image or dental-related collage within one of the shutters, and on the lever above that shutter may teeter back and forth , a row of spring-mounted dentures, jiggling away.
Balancing Act-Akimbo refers not only to the kinetic motions of a machine but also to a playful attempt at an object that dispenses recommedations to help people achieve balance.
